Beatrix Potter hotel relaunches after £1m refurbis…

A hotel once owned by The Tale of Peter Rabbit author Beatrix Potter has reopened following a £1m refurbishment.

Potter owned Lindeth Howe hotel in Bowness-on-Windermere in the Lake District for nearly 20 years in the early 20th century.

Now the 34-bedroom hotel, built in 1879, has been revamped with the aim of broadening its appeal to visitors.

The hotel, which continues to highlight its links to Potter and her characters, has a new space for conferences, events and weddings, a new vegetable garden, and a new outdoor seating area. It also has a new tea room.

And it has dropped “country house” from its title to bring it more up to date.

Cheshire-based interior designer Stylise produced all the furniture for the brightly coloured tea room, while the refurbished bedrooms feature hand-made wardrobes from Cumbrian craftsman Ryan Blackburn.

Hotel manager Tony Holden, said: “We’re all very excited with the hotel’s new look, which I think still captures the spirit of Beatrix Potter’s love of nature and the Lake District landscape, but is very much appealing to 21st century leisure and conference guests.

“Lindeth Howe has a rich history and heritage, but like all businesses, we need to move with the times and this major investment is not only about offering returning customers a contemporary new experience, but also attracting national and international markets who may not have visited us before.

“We also want to make non-staying guests more aware of us as a destination for dining and provide an inspiring new environment for everything from birthday celebrations and family reunions to afternoon teas and Sunday lunches.”
